Etihad Airways Baggage Information

This post is related to the information about baggage allowance of Etihad Airways for all classes including first class, business class, and economy class for flights originating or arriving in the US ( United States of America ), Canada and Brazil only. Information about baggage allowance for infants in any class of travel is also given after the baggage allowance information  of Etihad Airways travel classes like first class, business class and economy class.

Note: Usual/Normal baggage allowance, extra baggage charges, excess baggage discount and list of items you can take with you free of charge are different for all other flights except originating or arriving in the US ( United States of America ), Canada and Brazil. The baggage allowance values shown below in each Etihad Classes are usual/normal and can be extended for additional charges. Information about extra baggage allowance at additional cost is given at the end of Etihad Airways baggage allowance information for infants.

Etihad Airways Baggage Allowance For US, Canada And Brazil

The details of normal baggage allowance for all Etihad Airways Travel classes like first class, business class and economy class are given. Normal baggage allowance for infants in any travel class is also given at the end of normal baggage allowance information of travel classes.

Etihad Airways has codeshare with American Airlines. Please be advised that a fee of 60USD or more may be collected from you for your second (or additional) bags in any class of travel on flights marketed by American Airlines ( Only those flights which are shared with or marketed by American Airlines ). Baggage allowance, extra baggage allowance, charges, excess baggage discount and list of items you can take with you free of charge are given after the baggage allowance for Brazil.

Baggage Allowance For Brazil:

For First and Business Classes on Etihad flights originating or arriving in Sao Paulo, Brazil, three checked in bags weighing up to 32kg each are permitted free of charge and for Economy, two checked bags weighing up to 32kg each are permitted. Add an additional bag of up to 32 kg for a cost of US $175. Infants are permitted one checked-in bag weighing up to 23kg.

For carry-on luggage, one bag with a weight of up to 7kg is permitted in Economy Class and two bags with a weight of up to 12kg are permitted in Business Class and First Class.

Baggage Allowance For US And Canada

First Class (US/Canada)

  1. i) Checked-in Luggage

Baggage Weight:

  1. 2 bags, total weight = 64kg (140lbs) ( Sum of both bags = 64kg )
    2. Each bag/item must not exceed 32kg (70lbs) ( Even if you choose baggage allowance at additional cost )

Baggage Dimensions:

Each item must not exceed 32kg (70lbs) and maximum total dimensions of 158 cm (for example, 50 x 70 by x 38)

  1. ii) Carry-on Luggage

Baggage Weight: 2 bags, total of 12 kg.

Baggage Dimensions: Each item must not exceed maximum total dimensions of 111 cm
(for example, 40 x 50 x 21)

Business Class (US/Canada)

  1. i) Checked-in Luggage

Baggage Weight:

  1. 2 bags, total weight = 64kg (140lbs) ( Sum of both bags = 64kg )
    2. Each bag/item must not exceed 32kg (70lbs) ( Even if you choose baggage allowance at additional cost ).

Baggage Dimensions:

Economy Class

  1. i) Checked-in Luggage

Baggage Weight:

  1. 2 bags, total weight = 46kg (100lbs) ( Sum of both bags = 46kg )
    2. Each bag/item must not exceed 23kg (50lbs) ( Even if you choose baggage allowance at additional cost ).

Baggage Dimensions:

Each item must not exceed 23kg (50lbs) and maximum total dimensions of 158 cm (for example, 50 x 70 by x 38)

  1. ii) Carry-on Luggage

Baggage Weight: 1 bag, total of 7 kg.

Baggage Dimensions: Each item must not exceed maximum total dimensions of 111 cm
(for example, 40 x 50 x 21)

Infants ( In any class of travel )

Luggage checked in and stowed in the hold:

Baggage weight: One bag only, not exceeding 23 kg (50 lbs)

Baggage Dimensions: Each item must not exceed 23kg (50lbs) and maximum total dimensions of 158 cm (for example, 50 x 70 by x 38)

Items you can take on flight for free:

The given below items are classified as carry-on items, and you can take on the flight in addition to your carry-on luggage allocation. Please note these should be stowed under the seat where permitted:

  • Handbag, pocket book or purse
  • Overcoat, wrap or blanket
  • Umbrella or walking stick
  • Small camera and / or binoculars
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight
  • Collapsible wheelchair / crutches
  • Braces or prosthetic devices (provided the guest is dependent on them)
  • Briefcase or portable PC which is not being used as a container for transportation of articles, regarded as baggage – exception: laptop – not to be activated without flight crew knowledge / concurrence
  • Mobile phone – exception: not to be utilized during flight.

Extra Baggage Allowance & Charges

Sometimes it’s very difficult to pack within your weight limit of your baggage allowance. For an additional cost/charges you can increase the amount of luggage ( baggage allowance ) you can take on your flight. Alternatively, you can send your extra weight for a reduced cost through Crystal Cargo.

You can get extra baggage allowance by using any or all ways given below.

First and Business Class extra weight charges

For USA:

Add an additional bag of up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) for US $175.

Add an additional bag of up to 32 kg (70 lbs.) for US $225.

Items that are heavier than 32 kg (70 lbs.) cannot be carried on the aircraft and must be sent by Crystal cargo.

For Canada:

Add an additional bag of up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) for CAD175.

Add an additional bag of up to 32 kg (70 lbs.) for CAD 225.

Items that are heavier than 32 kg (70 lbs.) cannot be carried on the aircraft and must be sent by Crystal cargo.

Economy Class extra weight charges

For USA:

Increase the weight of one of your free bags from 23kg to 32kg for US $50.

Add an additional bag of up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) for US $175.

Add an additional bag of up to 32 kg (70 lbs.) for US $225.

Items that are heavier than 32 kg (70 lbs.) cannot be carried on the aircraft and must be sent by Crystal cargo.

For Canada:

Increase the weight of one of your free bags from 23kg to 32kg for CAD 50.

Add an additional bag of up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) for CAD175.

Add an additional bag of up to 32 kg (70 lbs.) for CAD 225.

Items that are heavier than 32 kg (70 lbs.) cannot be carried on the aircraft and must be sent by Crystal cargo.

Global Service Fees:

Since 1st February 2011, Etihad airways global contact centres and retail offices charge a global service fee for new bookings, ticket changes and refund administration.

The following price ranges are applicable for Etihad Airways global service fees:

Booking fee Starting from USD10
Change fee USD 20 – USD 400
Refund fee USD 10 – USD 400
No-show fee USD 10 – USD 200

Effective 1st June 2012, any reward booked via the Etihad Guest Service Centre will incur a global service fee of USD20 or 2000 Etihad Guest Miles. This fee is only applicable for services which can be booked online by Etihad Guest Base Members and Etihad Guest Silver Members.
